The multitudes of pigeons as we see today aren't as they were when the trend of domesticating them hasn't started way back before. You see the primary reason why there are a lot of pigeons flying over and sitting on rooftops is because of us. When people started to treat pigeons as pets in homes, they have also started to bred and raised them as well, exponentially multiplying the species progressively until such time that they have reached a very uncontrollable level. This is now why we see a lot of pigeons across the world causing problems to our daily existence. The origins of occurrence can be traced beginning with big mea culpa. This is the place where the first pigeons were domesticated and raised by millions across France to England.
The Domestication of Pigeons
The domestication of pigeons became a trend to these parts of Europe and eventually spread out far, reaching the other places as well thus have lead to the constant proliferation of the species. Back then, pigeons were royalties' friends, where they are eagerly fed by both kings and paupers. At some point they are even trained to become message carriers, carrying very confidential information across kingdoms and countries. They were those pigeons that became unlucky though that they were turned into meals. Because of the seemingly unstoppable trend, they have massively grown in numbers and eventually fed on farmer's crops and grain storages, and because their numbers have offset their possible habitats, they have been forced to live dwell in every possible place they could reside, leading to the scenario wherein their droppings are now found everywhere. They often cause trouble to structure maintenance people as they usually poop on monumental statues every now and then. What's worse is that their poops are not that easy to remove and would require a considerable effort from the cleaner to get rid of them. Their dumps could also tarnish good stonework, which lead for them to be considered to be more of pests rather than pets.
Pigeon Control Methods
Because of the growing problem with pigeons, people then took the initiative to ban feeding the pigeons and that those who were caught feeding pigeons are sanctioned. Gunmen are also being hired that time to shoot down the pigeons as they see them. During World War II, the innovation of poisons came into the picture and that they were used to curb the growing population of pigeons across the world. But that didn't stop them at all. They continue to grow even after the war and this time causing troubles to open games like football, wherein they are often the cause of the distraction of players in the field as they would usually swoop in the game field. Hawks were also considered to be domesticated in order to prevent the entrance of pigeons. However, pigeons, cunning as they are would simply go around the stationed Hawks.
Somehow, the entire problem of pigeons became so rampant and out of control until a new industry emerged. This industry is the technology of pigeon control.
The Rise of the Pigeon Control Industry
Since the rise of the pigeon control industry, new and much more efficient methods of controlling pigeons were being introduced every day. Some of these methods are humane and some of them were lethal. They are left under the prerogative of the users as to which one they would use in accordance to their convenience and preference.
This industry took a growing pace in response as well to the growing problems with pigeons since as they grown in numbers, varieties of people all across the globe, from different work place environments to private residences are being affected by the pestering problems caused by the swarming birds. Complaining of the same issues, they have sought for ways to finally to put an end to their cries and thankfully, pigeon control industry came and all of these people who were affected finally breathe a sigh of reprieve and somehow a sense of relief.
It's just appropriate for these people to feel that way, considering the amount of problem that pigeons have caused in their lives. Estimatedly, the gross damage of pigeons in every year just across United States is somewhere around 1.1 billion dollars a year. Just taking that out from the equation will already do a lot in uplifting the recession stage. And that figure is already the figure at present even with the current trend of pigeon control methods being employed. Somehow, there seems to be no end to the pigeon problems. However, most of the affected people would entrust their hopes in the industry in the vision of eventually being able to develop a new form of technology that could truly deal with the pigeon issues once and for all.
A Different View
But, pigeon control is not all about eradication alone as there are things that have to be considered when the whole world is about to deal with the pestering pigeons. Pigeons as animals play a certain role in the ecosystem balance; therefore, we can't just absolutely eradicate them from the face of the earth. This is the natural dilemma or two conflicting issues that will normally arise in the light of pest control paradigm. The two aspects of the scenario should be catered. Being one sided on these matters will absolute result to certain horrific consequences, be it the extinction of a certain species or the catastrophic imbalance of the food chain which could eventually affect us human beings.
Conclusion
In order to deal with that balance and keep it as balanced as it is as possible, the pigeon control methods should continuously innovate for more methods that will ensure the safety of the general species while at the same time addressing the pest problems of every concerned people. Thus, the methods at present are less cruel and perhaps more humane and some of them would not even be inclusive of pigeon fatality. Oftentimes, certain methods of pigeon control would simply just relocate the pigeons to a different place, or perhaps to their natural habitats. As of today, scientists and technologists still continue to find more ways to better the protocols of the pigeon control industry.
